Rob Gregory, General Manager, East Waste

EV procurement - From myth to reality

East Waste will in January 2020 take possession of South Australia’s first fully electric waste collection vehicle and one of only a handful in Australia. This followed an extensive assessment of the truck’s suitability to the East Waste fleet and operations.

This webinar will step through the process East Waste undertook, along with data and commentary on the performance of the truck over the initial months of operation.

Elyse Stanes, Researcher, School of Geography and Sustainable Communities, University of Wollongong

Benchmarking, characterising and valuing the resources in bulky kerbside council collections

This webinar will report on a collaborative project between the Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation and researchers at the University of Wollongong. The project aims to broaden understandings around the collection of bulky household goods presented by households across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven region, to pinpoint current tensions and factors that affect their movement through local Council waste streams and to identify possibilities for augmenting current collection and reuse strategies.

This webinar offers some conclusions from the project about the role of the bulky waste in the transition from a regime of disposal through landfill, to one focused on resource recovery.

In this webinar, Elyse will discuss project findings and conclusions on behalf of the project team.  Yvette Barrs and Nicole Parsons from the Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation will also be available to answer questions.
