This webinar will provide a snapshot of the key achievements made to date through the implementation of the NSW Illegal Dumping Strategy 2017–21 released in 2018. In the last two years the EPA has increased its knowledge and data and enhanced RIDonline.
The EPA will share some key facts in this presentation. The presentation will also provide an update on key program areas; illegal landfilling, kerbside dumping and charities and the work that has been completed. The presentation will also provide a road map for the next two years and where we need to focus our efforts.
The Litter and Illegal Dumping Management Framework (LIDMF) is a new initiative by the Queensland State Government. Queensland’s Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy was released on 1 July 2019. As part of this initiative, the need for a holistic, scientifically-based framework for litter and illegal dumping was identified.
The aim of the LIDMF is to compile a comprehensive list of sources where litter and illegally dumped (LID) waste originates, to understand how LID moves and changes in the environment and how the resultant materials affect values. At the heart of the framework is an attribute-based classification scheme. All of the compiled information will be available on the web and will be supported by conceptual models.
Enforcement is key to reducing litter and illegal dumping, supporting education and infrastructure practices. The Litter Enforcement Officers Network offers training and resources to up skill officers, encourages collaboration and information sharing and advocates for best practices to target illegal dumping.
This webinar will show some of the achievements found through network collaboration, and discuss some best practice processes that are common issues.
Following this time in state government, Gayle worked as a Director in a number of NSW councils, primarily looking after service delivery and assets.
