If we are planning our future we have to learn from our past.

Driving a sustainable recycling economy
The past two years have seen significant change in the waste management industry. Global markets have limited the export of low-quality recycling and local players have struggled to respond.
The very definition of waste and recycling becomes an important detail as we reframe the conversation away from waste transporting to producing a commodity of optimal quality for sale and reuse.
By harmonising material specifications, increasing quality of baled product and growing end markets, we can drive a sustainable recycling economy for Australia.

Pulling products not pushing waste – Repurposing in action
Downer has created a nationally operating Division that focusses on repurposing materials that would otherwise be destined for landfill and extracting inherent value to enhance the performance of road building and surfacing products. Downer’s Reconomy business focusses on Pulling Products instead of Pushing Waste. We not only recover resources to avoid landfill, we recycle and repurpose those resources into high quality products and materials. This creates economic, social and environmental value for our customers and their communities.
The Reconomy business stream has now been operational for over 12 months. During this time, we have invested significantly in bespoke plant and equipment and have developed innovative and award-winning repurposing processes and end products.
This webinar will focus on the journey so far and outline some of our plans to further enhance and expand this business to support waste reduction initiatives.
