Details
Joanne McNeill will open the session by providing an overview of what social procurement is and some examples of recent developments in the field, on behalf of Social Procurement Australasia. Three 'case study' presenters will outline their innovative social procurement activities and Joanne will then facilitate discussion between the case study presenters, and with the audience. The session will provide insights into how social procurement is being practically implemented in three different contexts.

Jo has substantial experience with the social enterprise field, having been involved in the sector for close to 15 years. A key focus has been the development of the 'eco-system' and capacity building - including core competencies such as social procurement, social investment, grant funding, legal structures and forms, business planning, marketing, demonstrating social impact and managing partnerships.
Jo is an experienced facilitator, with a focus on cross-sector collaboration. Jo was the secretary of Social Procurement Australasia and is a Churchill Fellow. Jo brings depth to this work with a track record in engaging diverse combinations of people and entities to collaborate.

David is a Resource Recovery Coordinator for SSROC working on behalf of 10 councils in the Southern Sydney region, home to 1.8 million residents. David uses participatory planning to engage councils in a range of initiatives. Recent projects include future planning for regional illegal dumping programming, cross-sector consensus building for a re-use/recycling network, regional waste education & marketing projects, community social values research, and a range of procurement and contract management. David has worked in sustainability and natural resource management with local, state and federal government for over 20 years, on 3 continents.

Andrew has enjoyed success in both the not for profit, private and Government sectors. His portfolio includes several environmentally conscious social businesses whose purpose is to provide employment opportunities for people with barriers to the mainstream labour market. Andrew was the co-founder of Soft Landing mattress recycling, which has since rolled out across different states, and was an advisory board member of the Australasian Waste & Recycling Expo. Andrew is currently an executive committee member of the Australian mattress product stewardship scheme and holds Post Graduate qualifications in Social Impact from the Australian School of Business and a Diploma in Management from the Australian College of Commerce. Andrew is also an accredited psychometric assessor and is a committee member of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia - Waste Reference Group, Australian Institute of Management Regional Advisory Group & the Community Recycling Network.

Currently Business Planner & Analyst at Endeavour Foundation, Carlos has contributed significantly to the organisation’s success in multiple social enterprise product arenas - most notably in the recycling field.
With an emphasis on sound business modelling and leveraging internal capability, Carlos and team have assisted numerous metropolitan and regional government councils in achieving mutually beneficial, triple bottom line outcomes through securing various contractual arrangements. As a result, Endeavour Foundation strengthens its financial position to continue providing expanded employment opportunities for over 2,350 people with a disability.
Carlos has a Master of Business degree from the University of Queensland, as well as Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Economics degrees. Prior to joining Endeavour Foundation, Carlos worked within the FMCG and telecommunications industries.
