Overview

The Goulburn Biogas Project. Kunal Kumar, ReNu Energy

Details

The Goulburn Bioenergy project is an innovative energy from waste project, taking waste water from the Southern Meats lamb abattoir in Goulburn and producing renewable energy through the process of anaerobic digestion. The project is commercially innovative as ReNu Energy will Build Own Operate and Maintain the waste treatment and power generation assets and sell power to the abattoir under a long term power purchase agreement. The project is technically innovative as it will be dual fuelled producing power from both the biogas as well as natural gas from the grid with the intent being to minimise network demand charges. The project will reduce organic waste in the waste water, produce on site renewable energy and abate carbon emissions. The project will reduce the abattoir’s electricity costs, increase its reliability of energy supply and enhance its commercial and environmental sustainability. The project is being supported by ARENA under the Advancing Renewables Program.
